"The Black and White Genre is Absolutely Classic!"

The Black and White Genre is a cornerstone of the modern films we enjoy today. No matter what age you are, if you haven't embraced the striking beauty of classic movies in black and white, you are really missing out on something wonderful. It's kinda funny, because when I was a bit younger (not that I'm quite a geezer yet, but I am 44) I could not enjoy anything, films or television, in black and white. Now some of that was growing up at a time when a color television was an expensive luxury many did not have. (including us) So it's possible that some of that discontent was simply not wanting to be reminded of my non-color childhood. Film Genres Now that I'm "pre-senile..." (yeah right, at 44..?) I can really appreciate the beauty of b&w films. I myself have produced short films and chosen to use black and white segments for purposes of the story as well as aesthetic beauty.
Tor Johnson in Plan 9 from Outer Space
Your humble host, Erik Swanson, as Tor Johnson (yes I know, the resemblance is frightening...) (at least I'm not carrying a woman...) (how many parenthetical captions am I going to create here...?) We all know at least a few absolute classic films in this genre, so which ones are your favorites? I'm always curious about which movies turn folks on, and why. For me, I'm a big fan of Horror, so of course one of my all time favorites is George Romero's Night of the Living Dead (1968). Another HUGE favorite of mine is Tim Burton's Ed Wood (1994). I've always adored the train wreck that is Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959) - also black & white, so to watch Johnny Depp portray the quirky nut who made the worst film ever...well, that's simply paradise in my weird world. In any case, we'd all love to hear your thoughts on this subject. What films do you recommend? What were the first films you ever saw in this genre? We've provided a wonderful and convenient Content Submission Form below, so please don't hesitate to use it. My nephew Brian has the distinction of being the first to share his thoughts with us at Fun Film Talk and I couldn't be happier about it.
