"The Cult Film Genre has to be the Strangest Movie Phenomenon ever!"

The Cult Film Genre has to be one of the strangest phenomena in movies. Derived from the word Occult, the word cult actually has powerful religious overtones. It describes a group of people with very strong and similar religious beliefs. The beliefs themselves are assumed to be either strange, or different from "the norm" in order to qualify as a "cult."
In film then, the term describes a group of fans who really adore a film with what can only be described as "religious" fervor. Something about the movie has an immense emotional hold on it's fans, and this makes for some very interesting situations.
Film Genres
Some absolutely classic examples of this phenomenon would be The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) (Aruably the "Queen Mother" of all Cult Films), Phantasm (1979) and Star Wars (1977) just to name a few.
