"What is it about Film Directors that make them great?"

Film directors are truly the conductors of the filmmaking process. As the chief decision makers on the set, they’re often involved in the financing, writing and even editing of the film.
Having the huge responsibility to visualize the screenplay, directors coordinate, or “block” the movements of actors. Some directors are also accomplished actors themselves. This can create directors who are well suited to work with actors.
Some of my favorite directors are those who started as young actors. Folks like Clint Eastwood, Ron Howard, Penny Marshall and Rob Reiner come to mind. There are plenty of others, but even just the four I’ve mentioned here are responsible for some of our greatest films. An all time favorite writer/director of mine is Don Coscarelli. One of the reasons I love him so much is that he created one of my favorite horror films, Phantasm (1979).

Film Director Stanley Kubrick
Although I’m fond of so many directors, If I had to name my #1 favorite I’d have to say Stanley Kubrick. From what I know of him I would have hated to work for him, but I simply love his films.
As always I’d love to hear about your favorite directors and why you love them. Please feel free to avail yourself of our response form and add your voice to these pages.
