"Tom Cruise Films are some of the most exciting and interesting of the Hollywood Blockbusters."
Are you like me? Are you a fan of Tom Cruise Films? Did you know that Tom Cruise was originally on a quest to become a Priest? Well, it's the truth. At the tender age of 14 he enrolled in a Franciscan Seminary School. Little did he know that he was shortly to become one of the top 100 movie stars of all time!
Mr. Cruise's real name is Thomas Cruise Mapother IV. Mapother is pronounced like the word "May" next to the word "Bother," then you simply replace the B in Bother with a P and you have it. Tom was born in Syracuse, New York on the 3rd of July in 1962. His family moved around quite a bit resulting in his attending 15 different schools by the time he was 14 years old. His Mom is Mary Lee (nee Pfeiffer) and his Dad is Thomas Cruise Mapother III.

At the age of 12 his Mom left his Dad keeping Tom and his Sister Lee Anne with her. Their financial situation was so bleak that earnings from delivering the Louisville Courier-Journal helped to put food on the table.
Let's face it, Tom Cruise Films are as big as they come in the world of Hollywood. During the 80's he starred in four of the top earning films - Top Gun (1986), The Color of Money (1986), Rain Man (1988), and Born on the Fourth of July (1989). During the 90's it was Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994), Mission Impossible (1996), and Jerry Maguire (1996). By this time he was averaging a cool 15 million dollars a film. Jerry Maguire earned him his first Academy Award Nomination (for best actor). The 90's were also the time that Tom joined The Church of Scientology. Having been introduced to Scientology by his first wife, Mimi Rogers, he also claimed that the teachings of his new belief cured him of lifelong dyslexia.
Tom Cruise was married to Mimi Rogers from May 9, 1987 until February 4, 1990. He was then married to Nicole Kidman from December 24, 1990 until August 8, 2001. While married to Nicole they adopted Isabella Jane Cruise and Connor Cruise. He then married his present wife, Katie Holmes on Novembe 18, 2006. They've since had one child together, Suri Cruise who was born on April 18, 2006.
There are many interesting facts surrounding Tom's life. Did you know that he once stopped to help a hit and run victim and actually paid for her hospital bills? Yes he did. It is said that Mr. Cruise is a kind and thoughtful man, and it's facts like this that tend to make me a believer.
As a film lover myself I find it very interesting that there are four separate Tom Cruise films where he has appeared alongside directors of his other films. Firstly, there's a huge favorite of mine, Sydney Pollack who appeared in Eyes wide Shut (1999) and who also directed The Firm (1993). Then there's another huge favorite of mine, Cameron Crowe who not only directed both Jerry Maguire (1996) and Vanilla Sky (2001), but also appeared in Minority Report (2002). I must say it again, another great favorite is Steven Spielberg who appeared in Vanilla Sky (2001) and directed Minority Report. And lastly Tom shared the screen with director Paul Thomas Anderson in Minority Report (2002). Mr. Anderson also directed Magnolia (1999).
There's something else I find very interesting about famous Film Actors. I'm not sure why, but I find it very interesting to hear what projects an actor either turned down or was actually considered for. In Mr. Cruise's case there's certainly no shortage. He was considered for the leading role in The Matrix (1999) as well as for the role of Tom Ripley in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999). He was also going to star in Enemy of the State (1998) but had to pass due to Eyes Wide Shut (1999) timing conflicts. Tom was also considered for the lead in End of Days (1999) which became Arnold Shwarzenegger's role.
All in all I have to say I'm a fan of Tom Cruise Films. He seems to pick film projects I almost always find fascinating. He's given us all some quite memorable blockbusters such as Top Gun (1986), The Last Samurai (2003), Rain Man (1988), Risky Business(1983), A Few Good Men (1992), War of the Worlds (2005) just to name a few.
